4 Best features of WoW Patch 10.2

Another major WoW content upgrade is approaching us! This one's number is 10.2 and the title is Guardians of the Dream. As you might've already guessed, it will take us to the long-expected Emerald Dream. Players asked for it since Classic and there were plans to add it from its beta, so it's been really a long time coming. Along with this legendary place we'll be getting a new raid, a new legendary, several new druid forms (which makes sense considering the setting), and so much more! In this blog post we've collected our top-4 of the new features coming in WoW Dragonflight Season 3. We'll also make an honorable mention of some other noteworthy changes. So read on to learn more!

New raid: Amirdrassil, the Dream's Hope

amirdrassil raid armadaboost

Every major patch brings us another raid and this one is no exception. Actually, Amirdrassil is the name of a new world tree and not of the citadel that we find ourselves standing in front of before starting the raid. That fiery citadel is the base of operations of Fyrakk, the blazing proto drake, and his minions that are related to the druids of the flame. In case you forgot who those are, we've already met them back in Cataclysm when we cleared Hyjal from them. If you remember the Ragnaros-featuring raid, Firelands, that was where we actually kicked their asses last time. It looks like that wasn't enough and we'll have to teach them another lesson.

This time the final boss is, expectedly, Fyrakk who has been annoying us the whole Dragonflight expansion up to this moment. Luckily, his defeat is going to be a very satisfying one since there are lots of rewards in store for us. That includes a fire owl mount which is the first non-dragon mount to be usable for dragonriding (although it only drops in the Mythic Amirdrassil), 2 proto drake skins, and several more great spoils. Overall, the raid features 9 bosses and a plethora of powerful items as loot.

New zone: Emerald Dream

Amirdrassil is located inside the Emerald Dream which is a new zone for us to explore during the patch. There'll be lots of public activities as well as quests some of which comprise the new chapter of the Dragonflight campaign. Obviously, there'll be lots of action involving the green / emerald dragonflight as well as druids and their gods, myths, and so on. The place is vast and has pleasant visuals that remind of Elvian forests as well as Ardenweald that we visited in the previous expansion, Shadowlands. Actually, that's where the seed of Amirdrassil came from so that makes sense.

New legendary: Fyrakk's 2-handed axe

fyr'alath legendary axe wow armadaboost

Behold, the new legendary! Fyr'alath, the Dream Render is the name and it's the personal weapon of this scoundrel's visage form. It's not yet completely clear how we're going to obtain it but most likely we'll have to complete a lengthy and complex quest line for that. Which is not a bad thing, if you ask us, because having a legendary as a simple random drop is outrageous and it's a great thing that Blizzard don't do that to us again.

A part of the community is ravished as they like the design of the new legendary weapon and expect it to fit their classes well. Most likely, warriors and death knights (retribution paladins too, perhaps?) will be those classes that can make the most of it. There's a small chance that if the axe can adapt to the spec of the wielder, it might be useful for hunters (agility) and shamans (agility and / or intellect) too, since those classes can wield 2-handed axes as well. But we'd not bet on that, although that would be a pleasant surprise.

New druid forms: cat raptors and friends

druid forms emerald dream 10.2 wow armadaboost

Now this is really great! Cat raptors are the weirdest design coming from Blizzard in a long time. You just can't help smiling looking at this creature. The raptors will become an alternative travel form. There are many other options too: runebears are great and reuse the great Legion-era model that can't be obtained now, new cats, birds (owl!), bears (owl bears!), and other shapes look just awesome! Even if you don't like some of them, it's okay, since you can always only use those that you prefer. It looks like there'll be lots of unique druid activities in this patch to make all this arsenal of skins available.

Even more new stuff

This patch is literally bursting with new content which is always a good thing. In those 4 selling points above we had no room to mention the new dragon which is some sort of a gym-frequenting faerie dragon. That makes sense since this kind of dragons inhabit the Emerald Dream but we've never encountered them in such a great shape! Obviously lots of customizations are coming along.

We'll also have a new major faction the Dream Wardens that offer lots of Dream-themed rewards (they'll also be the ones who'll give you the new dragonriding mount). Blood elves will get more customization settings including hair colors.

Dawn of the Infinites will be added to the M+ rotation (divided in 2 parts) – and those will be the only 2 dungeons from Dragonflight. The other 6 are:

  • Atal'Dazar (Battle for Azeroth)
  • Waycrest Manor (Battle for Azeroth)
  • Black Rook Hold (Legion)
  • Darkheart Thicket (Legion)
  • Everbloom (Warlords of Draenor)
  • Throne of the Tides (Cataclysm)
As you see, some of them are also Emerald Dream related (Darkheart Thicket and Everbloom), while the one from Cataclysm is also elements-themed.
