Classes of Black Desert Online 2: from Guardian to Maehwa

Today we'll learn about 5 more Black Desert Online classes. In this part we'll start with a bruiser class and carry on with 4 classes that all excel at eliminating targets fast in melee combat. But they are by no means identical or boring. You'll learn what makes each of those classes stand out in our brief and informative descriptions! So without further ado, let's go!

Guardian

  • Easy to pick up? Yes (both specs)
  • Easy to master? Mostly (both specs)
  • PvP role: Tank, Bruiser

The succession spec of this female barbarian class is all about slowing your opponents down. Virtually every skill you use, applies this effect to targets which gives you the edge over them in almost any battle. Succession guardian does decent damage (although mostly focused, not AOE) and moves around quite fast too. All this makes it different from the awakening spec: with it you move less, have more AOE options, and focus not on dealing damage but on standing in the way between hostiles and allies (i.e. being tank).

This class is really good for new players as it's one of the least demanding classes in the game right now. Take a look at this Blue Squadron's video to see Guardian in action:

Hashashin

  • Easy to pick up? Mostly (succession) & Not really (awakening)
  • Easy to master? Mostly (succession) & Not really (awakening)
  • PvP role: Assassin (melee)

Hashashin is all about damage and moving rapidly. The succession spec offers mind-boggling burst damage – which is exactly what a definition of an assassin class is. It's fairly easy to pick up and the hardest part of playing it is controlling your resource since your skills consume lots of it. The awakening spec is harder and is way more demanding in terms of skill. You get an array of powerful engagement abilities but using them right is not a piece of cake for sure.

We'd not say that this class is the best option when you're just starting out with Black Desert Online but if you already have some experience (especially with assassin classes) and you're up for a challenge, you should definitely consider this guy. Here's another Blue Squadron's video to get a better idea of what to expect:

Kunoichi

  • Easy to pick up? No (both specs)
  • Easy to master? No (both specs)
  • PvP role: Assassin (melee)

Kunoichi is a lady ninja who makes the most of her swords and chakram. The succession spec focuses on the former. You'll be using lots of stealth and finding ways to approach your enemies without being spotted is essential. The main gameplay loop includes generating ninjitsu charges and unleashing them for powerful combos. The class is very resource-hungry so don't expect that you'll be able to spam your strongest abilities all the time – that's not how this spec is played. Awakening, on the other hand, offers more of ability spamming as it's less resource-reliant. It also does less damage per ability but her fighting style is a bit slower and slightly easier to grasp.

Either way, the class is not among the easiest ones. Assassins rarely are easy, in fact. Kunoishi is certainly not the best first choice for new players but for experienced ones she offers lots of options. See what she's like in this video:

Lahn

  • Easy to pick up? Very easy (both specs)
  • Easy to master? Not really (both specs)
  • PvP role: Assassin (melee)

Lahn is an interesting class. She's definitely an assassin but her ways of, well, assassinating targets is quite unusual. She's designed to land most of her lethal damage bursts from above. How does she get the higher ground? Well, she doesn't even need the higher ground – she can literally move by air. Her skill set allows her to stay afloat for extensive periods of time and attack enemies from top to bottom. One would say she constantly stays on top (of the situation) but that would be a very indecent innuendo for such an absolutely non-sexualized game (sarcasm). Anyway, your task as a succession Lahn is to approach a target, dive down to it, annihilate it rapidly with a combo of abilities, and leave without elaboration. If you don't do the last step, you're likely to get wrecked by whoever is capable of dealing damage to you – Lahn is very squishy, so she's only successful when she's not taking damage.

That was the story of the succession Lahn, but there's the other side of her – the awakening. Not much changes though, to be honest. She becomes less squishy but also – sorry – less bouncy. That is, she loses some floating / flying skills and becomes a more able on-land assassin that can grab targets and do other bad things to them, quickly reducing their health to 0.

Unlike most other assassin classes, Lahn is quite beginner-friendly and you if you're thinking of trying an assassin class, this might be your best option actually. Definitely go for it! And see this video for more details of what she's like:

Maehwa

  • Easy to pick up? Very easy  (both specs)
  • Easy to master? Yes (both specs)
  • PvP role: Assassin (melee)

Maehwa is yet another assassin on our today's list and she's also good for newcomers. Her both specs are accessible and they don't really differ much except for particular abilities and aesthetics. But overall, she's a melee assassin with lots of dashes and protection abilities whose primary goal is to move around the battlefield to find vulnerabilities of opponents and deliver her outstanding damage burst accordingly. Unlike many other assassin classes, Maehwa's gameplay is surprisingly forgiving and you won't feel constantly threatened by all incoming attacks. No, Maehwa can sustain damage almost like a bruiser and you shouldn't worry much about it.

Here's a video for a better look at this sly weapon-master:
