Embers of Neltharion: 5 main features

Finally, the first major content update for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight has been announced! Embers of Neltharion seems like a really good patch and we'll get tons of exciting new stuff with it. We've picked the 5 most interesting of them and gathered them in this blog post for you to take a look at!

New Zone –Zaralek Caverns

The new underground zone is a really interesting choice for developers. The current expansion is heavily focused on flying on a dragon and taking your dragon underground... Well, not everyone could see it coming! Anyway, story-wise this descent doesn't look out of place. And the way the dragon flying is implemented underground is also quite fitting. The thing is that the caverns we're about to visit are really huge and flying there looks and feels alright. But flying is not the only thing that's interesting about these caverns: lots of new unique activities will await us there and the aesthetics of an underground realm with crystals and other stuff is really attractive. If you've played Cataclysm, you might remember Deepholm (called Deephole by some) that offered a similar setting but in a slightly different fashion. Zaralek Caverns look like the development of those ideas not just a copy of them.  Take a look at what this zone looks like:

Cross-Faction Guilds

This one is really huge! In the recent years the Alliance has become much less represented in the progress race than the Horde. And in general the population of Alliance players has decreased. Some say that it's mainly due to the fact that Horde races have better bonuses. Thankfully, now it doesn't matter much. Now you can join any guild with your character regardless of your initial faction. We'd say that it's a fantastic change that will give each of us so many more options. We won't have to choose between races of just one faction because all our friends play it. No! Everyone can play whatever they want and that's the best solution for this faction imbalance. So we're really happy that it's happening!

New Raid – Aberrus the Shadowed Crucible

Just like it usually is with major updates, we get a new raid as its centerpiece. Aberrus is a huge base of hostile dragonkin that have some connections to the worse part of the dragons' elite. Our friends, former Aspects, will help us deal with Scalecommander Sarkareth and his minions. The raid zone will be reminiscent of such raids as Blackwing Lair (Classic, truly OG), Blackwing Descent (Cataclysm), and everything else lava-themed. But yes, those Blackwing places are of particular importance as they were also inhabited with dragons. And here you will find not just some dragons – the echo of Neltharion himself will be present as a boss encounter! Neltharion is Deathwing and that's another throwback to the Cataclysm days that this expansion is heavily influenced with! Take a closer look at the visuals of this new raid:

New Dragon – Cloud Serpent

We already have as many as 4 different dragon archetypes for our dragonriding: proto-drake, regular drake, wyvern, and pterodactyl. Now it's time to add a cloud serpent to this list – it's a sort of Asian dragon. Similar to what we had in Mists of Pandaria. This time this model doesn't seem to be themed upon some Asian aesthetics but still. The name of the new dragon is Winding Siltherdrake. And of course, there will be tons of new customization options for it! You will be able to unlock various options by leveling up renown with new factions, visiting dungeons, and raids, and doing all other sorts of activities. Here's what this new dragon is going to look like as well as some of its customizations:

New Faction – The Niffen

The new major faction that we'll interact with in Embers of Neltharion is the Niffen. These not really attractive mole-people are quite kind and friendly, so don't judge the book by its cover! They don't see well and mainly rely on their sense of smell to find their way in space. They also really, really like smelling salt! Some particular well-smelling salt, that is! And you will help them get lots of it! Multiple new cosmetic and zone-specific rewards are included too! And the progress system will be similar to what we had with the original 4 major factions of the Dragon Isles – it's renown, not old-school reputation. This is obviously great news as the way Blizzard implement renown in this expansion is exceptionally good! Here's a video that tells more about this peculiar little race:
