Sanity's Edge armor sets – What are they?

Sanity's Edge is a pretty enjoyable trial. It's not savagely difficult but it's also not ridiculously easy. It has some really appealing rewards and armor sets are a huge part of that. And it's exactly them that we'll be discussing in this blog post.

First of all, some general info: there are 4 sets, each of them has a perfect version for a total of 8. The sets differ in basically everything but the most prominent point here is weight: 1 set is heavy. 1 set is medium, and 2 sets are light. Just as always, one of the light sets is support-focused while the other is meant for DPS champions. Here's the list of the sets:

  • Test of Resolve (heavy)
  • Ansuul's Tornment (medium)
  • Peace and Serenity (light DPS)
  • Transformative Hope (light support)
And now let's take a closer look at each of them.

Heavy: Test of Resolve

Like most other heavy armor sets, Test of Reslove is a purely tank-focused thing.  You get all the expected bonuses like Armor (+1487, 2-item bonus), Max Health (+1206, 4-item bonus), and Minor Aegis (-5% damage from PvE-instance monsters, 3-item bonus). With the perfected version of the set you get even more armor (+1487 more armor, 5-item bonus).

But as with all trial sets, what really makes this armor stand out is its ultimate bonus which is activated when you've collected 5+ items of the set. And in the case with the Test of Resolve it's something to behold: when you go below 50% HP one of the 2 special effects is applied to you (the cooldown for it is 45 seconds which is not much, but still). One of them is activated when your Stamina also goes below 50% – in this case you instantly restore full Health, Stamina, and Magicka, and on top of that get 10-second-long buffs Major Aegies (-10% incoming damage from PvE-instance enemies) and Major Protection (-10% incoming damage from everyone). Phew, that's quite a list of bonuses. And you can basically get all these goodies every 45 seconds. Isn't it crazy? And it looks way wilder than the othe rbonus that gets triggered whenever you go below 50% HP but NOT below 50% Stamina: you become a so-called Beacon of Hope. That means that all your buffs (minor and major) now apply the Major Aegis buff too. This "now" lasts 20 seconds. A lovely thing to have too but the first of these two effects looks absolutely amazing to us!

Medium: Ansuul's Torment

This Medium armor set is obviously damage-focused. It enhances your stats by increasing your Critical Chance (+657, 2-item bonus) and Offensive Penetration (+1487, 4-item bonus). It also applied the Minor Slayer buff which increases your damage against PvE-instance monsters by 5% permanently (while the set bonus is active, that is) – this is a 3-item bonus. The perfected extra bonus doubles the Critical Chance increase once you've activated the 5-item bonus (that is, you get +657 twice for a total of 1314).

The ultimate bonus is less spectacular than that of the heavy set, but it's still very good. You get an unconditional damage increase against monsters by 7%. And you double that to get a 14% damage increase for 10 seconds upon interrupting enemies. Hence this set's main bonus encourages you to watch out for enemies casting spells to disrupt that and get a lovely attack boost right away.

Light DPS: Peace and Serenity

Despite its beautiful pacifist name, this set is primarily focused on increasing your damage. Yeah, an irony of sorts. So here's what you get in particular: +657 Critical Chance (2-item), Minor Slayer buff for +5% damage against instance monsters (3-item), +129 Weapon/Spell Damage (4-item), and the last thing once again for the perfected set: +129 Weapon/Spell Damage (5-item). Yeah, peace and serenity are hardly achievable with all this stuff. But perhaps some maniacs achieve both when destroying things and hurting people, who knows. We hope that there are not many people like that in Bethesda...

Back to the set's bonus, there's also the ultimate effect that you get when you've gathered 5+ items. It awards you for literally doing nothing: if you stand still without moving, you get a handsome damage power-up: +465 Weapon / Spell damage. But if you start moving, you won't go without a prize either: +203 Health, Magicka, and Stamina recovery is what you get. So the idea is that you stand still and do damage, then when some danger arises, you start running away from it recovering your main resources in the process. Sounds good. Naturally, this behaviour pattern is more common among ranged DPS so that's who this set is perfect for.

Light Support: Transformative Hope

This light set is evidently for support champions and it's easy to understand that by just looking at its bonuses. +4% healing done (2-item), Minor Aegis (3-item), and +129 magic recovery (4-item). You might have already guessed that some of this doubles in the perfected version and indeed it does: you get another +4% healing done with 5+ items.

But there's also the ultimate bonus. Here's how it works: you heal someone who's below 50% HP. It can be you or an ally – it doesn't matter. Upon receiving healing, the healed champion gets the Spark of Hope buff that lasts 3 seconds. When it expires the target can get the Major Heroism for 15 seconds, but only if the target has 90%+ HP at the moment of the expiration. The Major Heroism gives you 3 ultimates every 1.5 seconds and is quite a solid buff. Basically, the idea is to keep your allies' health high throughout the fight. Thus they will get more utility and deal more damage – consequently, you'll finish the fight faster and, obviously, with a higher chance of success.
